Will has been in the hospital since early Saturday morning (like 2:00 am). Friday afternoon I took him to the doctor and they said that he had strep throat and prescribed an antibiotic for him. During the night he came into our room and he could not breath. I took him outside and he improved a little but not enough so we decided to take him to the ER. Haylie came over to our house to stay with Emmie and Jason.
When we got to the ER I told them (nurses and doctors) that Will was having an asthma attack. They said that he was not wheezing that he probably had the croup. Will could not breath hardly at all. His stomach was retracting under his ribs at least 2 inches, he started to involve his shoulders muscles to breath. It was really scary because he was using all of his energy just to breathe and he was tiring out.
He didn't really improve until we got set up in a peds room and by then the steroid kicked in and was helping with the inflammation in his wind pipe. By Saturday afternoon the retractions under his ribs stopped and he started to breathe easier with the help of some oxygen. We thought that we would be able to come home today but now he had some asthma kick up and his lungs now are swollen. He got an IV today because the steroid used to treat inflammation of the lungs is given through an IV.
Today the Respiratory therapist said that he was improving rapidly and that we should be able to come home on Monday. I guess we'll see what happens through the night. Will has just wanted his dad so John has been sleeping at the hospital at night and durning the day we have taken turns being with Will. Grandma Sing and Grandpa Scott has had Jason and Emmie all day.
Right now Will is on 2.5 liters of oxygen per minute and he needs to be at least on 0.25 to come home with oxygen on. He has come down from 3, so he is showing improvement.
Thanks to everyone who has helped and thank you for the prayers.
